Hi all,
This is an interesting fact that I came across and thought I would share it with all of you. The smallest betrothal ring on record was given to two-year-old Princess Mary, daughter of Henry VIII. When she became engaged to the infant Dauphin of France, son of King Francis I, in 1518, a tiny gold ring, set with a valuable diamond, was fitted to her finger. Now I think it would have looked very cute. What do you guys think?

reading this question i thought,....i mean just wondering if a different stone can be an engagement ring. Does it always have to be a diamond ring?

I am asking because my brother's fiance is very fond of rubies and a big ruby that is diamond cut would make her go crazy! I just know that she would prefer the ruby as the engagement ring over a diamond as the main stone.

I for one am an "outside of the box" person and I have never been married so I say that it is okay to get something different. But I do not want to use my own lack of experience to convince my brother that he should get a ruby ring when it would be the best to get a diamond ring.

Thanks for any input!
