Let us look at the basic difference between 14 karat and 18 karat gold-

Overview of gold purity-
1.24 karat means 100% pure gold
2.18 karat means 75% pure gold
3.14 karat means 58.3% pure gold
4.10 karat means 41.6% pure gold

The basic difference between 14K and 18K is only the % of gold. In 18K the quantity of gold is 75% and 25% is copper or other metal. But in case of 14K the quantity of gold 58.3% and other metal is 41.7%.

18K gold is the pure gold. The quality of pure gold is its very soft, and can bend or scratch easily. So they mix it with other metals to make it harder and more durable. So 18K gold has more gold than 14K gold. 14K gold is also softer than 10K gold, but harder than pure gold.
