Pictures of riverbed mining

I had the good opportunity to work as the gem specialist for a Discovery program on gemstones. we spent 5 days at the mines filming and exploring here are a few images of a river bed Mine in Rathnapura Sri lanka.

although the water flows smoothly the part they are mining is around 70 feet deep. painstakingly they bring the gravel up by using a 70 foot long pole and at the end of the day they sort the gemstones.

It was aired Last december on Discovery ... I am not too sure if it was shown in US but the program was done by "Discovery canada".

What was the name of the show - maybe we can request that our local channel get the show or maybe get a copy of it - I know my local Rock & Gem Club would love to see something like  this that actually shows the work at the source.

Name of the show was - "Stones of fate and Fortune"
and the sri Lankan segment was " Stones of Seduction. "
